Dawn Landes - May 5, 2008
Listen now:
Dawn Landes, a New York City transplant by way of Kentucky, doesn't fit easily into one musical category. Her delicate, ethereal voice paired with beautifully simple melodies spans genres, creating a blend of indie rock, folk and alt-country. Her rural roots and long history making music makes her comfortable with bluegrass as well, a style that influenced her recently recorded cover of the popular Peter, Bjorn and John single, "Young Folks."
When she's not performing, Landes serves as a freelance sound engineer and assistant in a variety of New York-based recording studios. The roster of musicians she's worked with reads like a who's who: Ryan Adams, Joseph Arthur, Patti Griffin, Hem, Linda Thompson, and more.
Landes recently released "Fireproof" in the US and will tour Europe soon in support of the album's May release on that side of the pond. Recorded in an old Brooklyn fire station turned recording studio, Landes' latest creation has been turning heads with its range of emotion and stellar production.
Landes finishes up a tour of the Midwest in mid-May with two evenings at the Nelsonville, OH, Folk Festival before diving into European dates scheduled through the end of August.
