Dave Matthews Band unfurls summer trek

Summer amphitheater-circuit linchpins the Dave Matthews Band have unveiled their initial road plans for 2006, confirming 49 appearances in 37 North American cities--and that's just for starters.

The outing is currently scheduled to open May 30 in the St. Louis area and wrap up Sept. 23 in DMB's home base of Charlottesville, VA. According to a statement issued by the band's publicist, more shows will be added in the coming weeks.

Multi-night engagements are so far planned for Noblesville, IN; Burgettstown, PA; Saratoga Springs, NY; Camden, NJ; East Troy, WI; Hartford, CT; New York City; West Palm Beach, FL; George, WA; Mountain View, CA; and Charlottesville. The itinerary also includes the Dave Matthews Band's first-ever gig at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Tickets for most of the tour will go on sale to the public April 8, the statement said, adding that the most up-to-date on-sale information will be posted on DMB's website.

O.A.R. , G. Love & Special Sauce , Matisyahu , Gomez , ALO, Umphrey's McGee, Gov't Mule, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones and Pat Green are among the acts who will rotate though the tour's opening slots, with more opening acts to be announced in the coming weeks. Available information is in the itinerary below.

Concert-industry magazine Pollstar ranked DMB the No. 8 top-grossing touring act of 2005, with $57 million earned over 65 shows. Only U2 sold more tickets in the US last year, according to Pollstar.

Prior to launching the tour, DMB will play an April 29 gig at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Last year, the band spearheaded a hurricane-relief fund-raising effort that was highlighted by a special appearance at the Denver area's famed Red Rocks amphitheater, which raised more than $1.5 million for Hurricane Katrina victims.

DMB performed four nights at Red Rocks last year, a stint that was documented on the 2-CD, 1-DVD package "Weekend on the Rocks," which hit stores in November. The group's most recent studio set is 2005's "Stand Up."
