Carl Palmer revisits ELP songs on North American tour
Percussionist Carl Palmer has revealed plans for his first solo North American tour, to begin in late May.
The drummer--a founding member of prog-rockers Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Asia --will tour with his newly formed power trio, The Carl Palmer Band. The group will kick things off with a May 31 appearance in Arlington, MA, near Boston.
The band's all-instrumental tour, billed as "Carl Palmer Celebrates the Music of ELP," will rumble through eleven cities on the first announced leg of the outing, which is expected to eventually extend into early July.
During the concerts, Palmer and his band will concentrate on the instrumental music he helped create with ELP, which broke up in 1980. Among the songs Palmer is expected to feature in the show are "Tarkus," "Fanfare for the Common Man" and "Hoedown."
"I am very excited to be returning to North America to see and play for the many loyal fans I have come to know over the years," Palmer said in a press release. "This is a trio, which ELP also was, but we have replaced the keyboards with some very powerful guitar interpretations of that classic music."
The group features Palmer on drums, and is rounded out by guitarist Paul Bielatowicz and bassist Stuart Clayton.
