Briefly: Kanye West, Celine Dion, Elton John, Taking Back Sunday
Kanye West will perform at Southern California's Santa Monica High School on Monday (12/5), according to Los Angeles radio station Power 106 (KPWR-FM).
The school was the winner of a morning-show contest dubbed "Big Boy's Backstage with Kanye West," in which Power 106 host Big Boy invited all area schools to register online and place online votes to win the private event.
Celine Dion , Elton John and special guest host Jerry Seinfeld will give a Feb. 20 performance at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to raise money for thurricane-affected employees of the resort's parent company, Harrah's Entertainment, Inc.
Tickets, priced from $100 to $1,000 (plus tax and handling fee), hit the market Monday (12/5).
Hurricane Katrina closed Harrah's-owned resorts in Gulfport and Biloxi, MS, and in New Orleans. The Harrah's Foundation quickly seeded an Employee Recovery Fund with a $1 million donation, and outside donations have since swelled the fund to $3 million, which is being directed to the company's hardest-hit employees, according to a press release.
Rockers Taking Back Sunday are selling packages of signed holiday cards via their official website, the proceeds from which will be donated to several cancer charities to be named at a later date, according to a press release.
The card's artwork was created by Arizona-based poster artist James Rheem Davis, who in the past has created a series of event posters for the band.
Three of the band's five members have relatives who have suffered from some form of cancer.
