Alison Krauss & Union Station stay on the road
Alison Krauss & Union Station will keep their tour bus rolling for much of what's left of 2005 as they continue to support last year's "Lonely Runs Both Ways."
The bluegrass act will play a handful of late-October shows in the Midwest, and will then spend stretches of November and December focusing on the East Coast. Details are included below.
In addition to their headlining dates, Krauss and her band are also scheduled to perform at New York City's Carnegie Hall on Nov. 14 as part of an event billed as "The Grand Ole Opry Goes to the Big Apple." The show--which will also feature Trace Adkins, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Charley Pride, Ricky Skaggs, Bill Anderson, Little Jimmy Dickens, Martina McBride and Trisha Yearwood--will air live on 650 WSM-AM, Stream 137 on Sirius Satellite Radio and at The Grand Ole Opry's website, according to organizers.
The day after the Grand Ole Opry show, Krauss will presumably be on hand for this year's CMA Awards ceremony at New York City's Madison Square Garden. She's nominated in the Female Vocalist of the Year category, and is nominated along with Union Station for Vocal Group of the Year. Featured band member Jerry Douglas, meanwhile, is up for Musician of the Year. The awards ceremony will air live on CBS.
Krauss's tour is sponsored by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, which, in May, began selling "Home on the Highways," a collection of previously released Alison Krauss & Union Station material. The disc--which also features "more than eight minutes of behind-the-scenes bonus video footage," according to a press release--is available exclusively at Cracker Barrel restaurants and via the company's website.
"Lonely Runs Both Ways," Krauss and company's most recent collection of new material, surfaced last November. The set features several band originals, as well as songs by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, John Scott Sherrill and Mindy Smith, Del McCoury, Woody Guthrie and others.
