Kelly Clarkson scraps shows due to illness
A bout with bronchitis has forced singer Kelly Clarkson to cancel a number of recent shows on her summer headlining tour, which wraps up later this week.
Last week, Clarkson pulled the plug on her Sept. 5 show in Santa Barbara and Sept. 7 show in Irvine, CA. The singer had hoped to resume her outing Friday (9/9) in Reno, NV, but was still feeling ill during that day's soundcheck, at which time it "became obvious she would not be able to perform an entire show," according to a press release. A doctor subsequently advised her to postpone the Reno show, as well as her Saturday (9/10) stop in Las Vegas and Monday (9/12) stop in Spokane, WA.
The Irvine show has been rescheduled for Sept. 15, and the other dates will be rescheduled as well, according to Clarkson's website. Tickets for the original performances will be honored at the make-up shows.
Despite her illness, Clarkson was able to turn in a one-song performance at Saturday's (9/10) "ReAct Now: Music & Relief" telethon, during which she sang "Shelter."
At press time, Clarkson was still slated perform Tuesday (9/13) at the Western Washington Fair in Puyallup, WA. Also intact is a Sept. 16 make-up show in Pensacola, FL, which was originally scheduled to take place July 12, but was postponed due to Hurricane Dennis.
That same hurricane resulted in the postponement of Clarkson's July 10 concert in New Orleans, which has since been canceled outright due to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Meanwhile, Clarkson has lined up an Oct. 16 performance at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom, tickets for which will hit the box office on Saturday (9/17).
Clarkson has been backing her sophomore set, last November's "Breakaway," which features the cuts "Since U Been Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes." Last month, the clip for "Since U Been Gone" scored Clarkson for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.
In 2002, Clarkson rose to fame as the winner of Fox-TV's "American Idol" talent search. Later that year, she scored her first No. 1 hit with the song "A Moment Like This," which went on to be 2002's top-selling single.
"Thankful," Clarkson's debut album, surfaced in 2003.
