Ozzfest 2000 Revs Up For Two Months On The Road

Pantera , Incubus , Godsmack , Methods of Mayhem , P.O.D. , Static-X, Queens of the Stone Age and, of course, the Ozzman himself, Ozzy Osbourne, will grace the stage at Ozzfest 2000, according to the tour's official website. Scheduled to open on July 2 in Palm Beach, Fla., the Ozzfest will conclude with a Sept. 2 show the Blockbuster Pavilion in San Bernardino, Calif.

Confirmed second-stage artists for the two-month roving metal fest are Ministry, Kittie, Taproot, Primer 55, Pitchshifter, Disturbed, Crazy Town, The Deadlights, Shuvel, Slaves on Dope and Pumpjack. Tickets in several cities are scheduled to go on sale on April 8.

Though the Ozzfest made stops in just 25 cities in 1999, it grossed $19.4 million and ranked as the year's 22nd highest-grossing North American tour, according to Pollstar.

Ozzfest was born in 1996 with a smattering of dates and evolved into a Lollapalooza-style touring festival a year later. The tour has gone out in each ensuing year with Osbourne at the helm. According to several published reports, this will be Ozzy's final Ozzfest, but the event may continue without him.

In a posting on his official website, Ozzy said that when the idea of assembling the Ozzfest initially came about, there were many critics. But the critics, he said, are now eating crow.

''Last year people said we were mad when we were trying to put to together the Ozzfest, and we kicked every other festival's ass. People love this kind of music and they want to come and have a good time. I think we proved our point.''
