Stephen Malkmus has added several major-market club dates to his tour in support of his upcoming album, "Face the Truth," his third post-Pavement solo release.
Among the new cities on the schedule are San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago and Washington, DC. The singer/guitarist so far is scheduled to be on the road for a month, beginning June 4.
Besides the club appearances, Malkmus is also on the bill of an Independence Day festival in New York City's Battery Park, along with Yo La Tengo and Laura Cantrell.
"Face the Truth" is due in stores May 24, and features 11 new tracks. As he has been since 2001, Malkmus is backed by his band The Jicks, which includes bassist Joanna Bolme, drummer John Moen and guitarist/keyboardist Mike Clark.
"There is a lot of talk about 'Steve goes it alone' on new album, etc.," Malkmus recently wrote on his website. "This is not really the case. The Jicks in one form or another make an appearance on every song on 'FTT.' So if you like or hate this CD, I'm not the only one to blame."
Malkmus is set to launch the album with a May 24 in-store appearance at the Seattle Sonic Boom store at 514 15th Ave. East, according to Matador Records.
