Trey Anastasio, Ben Harper to headline traveling festival

Following his soon-to-launch spring solo tour, former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio will team up with Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals for the inaugural Zooma Tour .

Appearing with headliners Anastasio and Harper during the multi-stage trek will be at least four guest acts on each date, with a total of 20-25 acts expected to rotate through the guest slots during the course of the tour.

The outing--organized by Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival creators Superfly Productions and A.C. Entertainment--is slated to kick off June 16 and stop at amphitheaters in "at least 28 major North American markets" by the time it wraps up on July 31, according to a press release. The itinerary--as well as a roster of guest acts--will surface in "the next few weeks."

"I always knew that Ben was a great singer but after seeing him at Bonnaroo, I realized what an amazing guitarist he is," Anastasio said in a statement. "I'm really looking forward to being on the road with him this summer."

"For myself and the Innocent Criminals, we can't wait to be on the Zooma tour this summer," Harper added. "We've been looking forward to doing shows with Trey for a long time. I also look forward to seeing a lot of great music on the second stage."

Billed as a traveling version of the annual Bonnaroo festival,
the Zooma Tour will, in addition to musical performances, also include "a complete activity village with vendors and attractions."

"Inspired by the Bonnaroo tradition, the Zooma Tour will extend the festival's spirit, presenting diverse lineups to open-minded music fans in local communities," organizers said in a press release. "The Zooma Tour will also retain Bonnaroo's festive atmosphere and dynamic entertainment options, not to mention its superior standard for quality live music."

Meanwhile, Anasatsio's pre-Zooma Tour solo outing kicks off April 26. His plans also include an April 30 performance at an event dubbed SuperJam, part of the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Details are available at Anastasio's website.

Anastasio last appeared at SuperJam in 2000 with bassist Les Claypool (Primus) and drummer Stewart Copeland (drums) to debut their side project, Oysterhead.
