Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers return to the road this summer for a U.S. outing that will feature The Black Crowes on a number of stops.
The run is currently due to launch June 8 in Florida, and shows in 22 cities are set through August. Details are shown below.
Ticket prices, presale and on-sale information, and additional tour dates will be announced shortly, according to a press release.
The Black Crowes will appear as special guests "on many of the dates," but organizers haven't announced specifics.
As part of the outing, Petty & The Heartbreakers--Mike Campbell (guitar), Benmont Tench (keys), Ron Blair (bass), Scott Thurston (guitar/harmonica/backing vocals) and Steve Ferrone (drums)--will headline the Rock Stage at the 12th Annual Music Midtown Festival in Atlanta on June 11.
The group's most recent release is 2002's "The Last DJ." Last year, Petty said that he was sorting through live material for use in a planned two-disc release, and also said a "Greatest Hits, Part II"--featuring some new material--was in the works. No word on the status of either project was available at press time.
Last fall, Petty signed a publishing contract with Omnibus Press, which plans to release the singer/songwriter's first authorized biography in time for the 2005 holiday season. Dubbed "Conversations with Tom Petty," the book is being written by Paul Zollo.
Next year, Petty & the Heartbreakers will celebrate their 30th anniversary.
The Black Crowes are in the midst of a string of sold-out reunion shows at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom. The group is slated to embark on a spring headlining run before linking up with Petty & The Heartbreakers.
