DVD series looks at the making of classic albums

A trio of newly issued DVDs that delve into the making of important albums--including Nirvana 's "Nevermind"--are set to hit stores this week.

"Nevermind--Classic Album" features interviews with surviving Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, as well as producer Butch Vig, Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and many others.

Other new releases this week in Eagle Rock Entertainment's "Classic Album" DVD series look at Motorhead's "Ace of Spades" and Simply Red's "Stars."

Besides documentary material on the making of the albums, the Simply Red and Motorhead DVDs include extended bonus features containing performances recorded exclusively for the "Classic Album" DVDs.

The "Classic Album" series actually launched in 1997. Besides adding new titles to the collection this year, Eagle Rock--which recently re-obtained ownership of the series--is reissuing the previous titles in the catalog, including Paul Simon's "Graceland, which hit stores this week.

Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon," Grateful Dead's "Anthem to Beauty" and Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors" are among the other already released titles.

Upcoming re-issues include looks at The Band's self-titled release and The Jimi Hendrix Experience's "Electric Ladyland."
