Macy Gray, Robbie Williams And Travis Each Take Two Brit Awards
Macy Gray , Robbie Williams and Travis took home two trophies apiece, but the ongoing Spice Girls drama--which began with the departure of "Ginger Spice" Geri Halliwell--stole the show at the Brit Awards, the British equivalent of the Grammys.
The Spice Girls picked up an Outstanding Contribution to British Music Award, and in accepting the award, "Scary Spice" Mel G was sure to give credit to the ousted Halliwell. "We've all got to say a big, big thank you to Geri because without her we wouldn't be able to do this," she said during the Friday (3/3) ceremony.
Halliwell, however, had other things in mind. She took the stage by emerging from a pair of giant inflatable female legs beneath a sign reading "Girl Powder," an unsubtle dig at the Spice Girls' ''Girl Power'' slogan. She then proceeded to upstage her former mates with a saucy performance of her single "Bag It Up," a spectacle featuring overweight women pushing shopping carts as they shopped for scantily clad men.
Robbie Williams won awards for Best British Video and Best British Single, both for the track "She's the One." He used his acceptance speech as an opportunity to challenge Liam Gallagher of Oasis to a brawl, Gallagher having threatened to hit Williams earlier that week.
