Guided by Voices hammer out dates for final tour

Guided by Voices , which earlier this year announced that its forthcoming album will be its last, has unveiled the itinerary for its farewell tour.

Dubbed The Electrifying Conclusion, the 25-date outing begins in mid-August and ends with a New Year's Eve performance in Chicago, which will be the second night of a two-night stand in that city. Additional back-to-back shows are planned in Portland, OR, and New York City.

Also set in New York City is the tour's Aug. 19 kick-off, a free performance that is part of the city's Hudson River Rocks concert series. Later that same evening, at the city's Tonic nightclub, the group will hold a record-release party to usher in its final album, "Half Smiles of the Decomposed."

Due in stores on Aug. 24, "Half Smiles of the Decomposed" was produced by Todd Tobias, who also manned the board for the group's previous set, last year's "Earthquake Glue."

"This feels like the last album for Guided By Voices," frontman Robert Pollard said of the new set in a statement. "I've always said that when I make a record that I’m totally satisfied with as befitting a final album, then that will be it. And this is it."

Pollard--the group's only mainstay--plans to embark on a solo career, according to Matador Records.
