Jessica Simpson cancels second straight show

Jessica Simpson called off her second consecutive concert appearance on Wednesday (6/23) as she continues to recover from a kidney infection.

The pop starlet was scheduled to perform Wednesday at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH, a day after she canceled a planned gig in Providence, RI, for the same reason.

Simpson reportedly was taken to a Providence-area hospital for treatment and released on Tuesday (6/22), and remains under a doctor's care.

Both canceled shows will likely be rescheduled, according to venue officials; if they are, tickets for the original shows will be honored on the new dates.

"Performing live on stage is my favorite part of being a singer and I'm having the best time on this tour," Simpson said in a statement. "I love seeing my fans up close and personal and can't wait until the doctor says it's okay for me to get back out there. Thanks to everyone for their get well wishes."

The young singer is in the midst of a 40-city tour in support of her 2003 album, "In this Skin." She plans to resume the outing in the Detroit area on Friday (6/25).
