Jessica Simpson cancels Rhode Island show due to illness

Pop starlet Jessica Simpson called off her planned Tuesday night (6/22) show at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, RI, due to a kidney infection.

Simpson reportedly was taken to an area hospital for treatment and released, and plans to resume her tour in Manchester, NH, on Wednesday night (6/23). The Providence show may be rescheduled, according to venue officials; if it is, tickets for Tuesday's show will be honored on the rescheduled date.

"I'm having the best time doing this tour, and I'm so disappointed that I have to miss tonight's show," Simpson said in a statement. "I appreciate everyone's get-well wishes and, as soon as my doctor says it's OK, I'll be back on stage, doing what I love. I hope to see my fans in Rhode Island soon."

Simpson is in the midst of a 40-city tour in support of her 2003 album, "In this Skin."
