Jazz Star Diana Krall To Tour North America In February
Now three Grammy nominations richer, jazz pianist and vocalist Diana Krall has returned to the road after taking a short holiday break. After wrapping up a two-night-stand in Honolulu, the hard-touring Canadian star is scheduled to spend a month in Australia and Europe before returning to North America in February.
Though Krall was playing small clubs just a couple of years back, she is routinely filling the much larger theaters and performing arts centers that now dominate her touring itineraries.
Krall's latest album, ''When I Look Into Your Eyes,'' (Verve) was Billboard's No. 2 jazz album of 1999, and remains atop the magazine's jazz charts. And in one of the Academy's more surprising picks, the album picked up a Grammy nomination in the Best Album category. It faces competition from albums by multi-platinum acts Backstreet Boys, Dixie Chicks, Santana, and TLC. The album also picked up nominations in the Best Jazz Vocal Performance and Best Engineered Album (non classical) categories.
The Vancouver native's previous release, the gold album ''Love Scenes'' (Impulse!), was the No. 2 jazz album of 1998 and the No. 4 jazz album of 1999, according to Billboard. That Grammy-nominated album spawned ''Peel Me A Grape,'' which became a hit on Adult Contemporary radio.
