Clay Aiken's summer tour schedule continues to grow

Clay Aiken , one of the many former "American Idol" contestants hitting the road this summer, has added more dates to his upcoming headlining tour.

Well over a dozen dates--scattered throughout July, August and September--have been added to the itinerary since Aiken first announced the tour last month.

The singer gets things started on July 2 with a free performance in New York City's Bryant Park as part of the "Good Morning America" summer concert series, which takes place each Friday. Ruben Studdard, who bested Aiken at the end of "American Idol"'s second season, is scheduled to perform on June 25.

Last October, Aiken offered up his debut album, "Measure of a Man." The set--which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 album chart--spawned 2003's top-selling single, "This Is the Night," as well as the hit "The Way."

The "American Idol" series, which just completed its third season, has spawned a number of tours over the course of its run. At the same time that Aiken is on the road this summer, latest winner Fantasia Barrino and the other finalists from the competition's third season will be mounting their own outing.

Last month, second-season winner Studdard wrapped a headlining theater tour in support of his debut album, "Soulful."

Earlier this year, Aiken embarked on a co-headlining run with first-season winner Kelly Clarkson.
