Lollapalooza adds The Von Bondies to day-one bill

Detroit rockers The Von Bondies have been added to the bill of this year's Lollapalooza tour, and will be the opening act on the day-one main stage at each of the tour's stops.

The group--which recently wrapped up an overseas tour that touched down in Australia, Japan and Europe--is set to open a month-long U.S. trek on Thursday (5/20). On June 22, the band is scheduled to appear on "The Late Show with David Letterman."

Lollapalooza opens on July 14 in Auburn, WA, and runs through much of August. The Von Bondies join a day-one, main-stage bill that also features Morrissey , Sonic Youth , Le Tigre , Modest Mouse and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

The Von Bondies continue to tour behind "Pawn Shoppe Heart," their major-label debut. The album hit stores in March. The band received national publicity last December, when frontman Jason Stollsteimer and The White Stripes' Jack White got into a brawl at a Detroit nightclub. White later pleaded guilty to an assault-and-battery charge.

Day two of the 14-city Lollapalooza tour--which plays two days at each stop--will feature a main-stage lineup of String Cheese Incident, The Flaming Lips, Gomez and The Polyphonic Spree.
