The Offspring taps Auf der Maur to open spring shows

Southern California punk-rock veterans The Offspring hit the club circuit in May with Auf der Maur, a new band fronted by former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf der Maur .

The outing, which backs The Offspring's late-2003 release "Splinter," gets underway on May 11 in Minneapolis, after the group's current round of festival dates.

"Splinter" features the cut "Hit That." The band re-enlisted producer Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Korn) to work on the album, and recruited drummer Josh Freese of A Perfect Circle to lay down drum tracks during the recording sessions. Former Rocket from the Crypt member Atom Willard is playing drums on the tour.

The eponymous debut set from Auf der Maur, which the singer/guitarist co-produced with Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, Masters of Reality), is scheduled to reach stores on June 1, two weeks later than initially expected.

Auf der Maur's trek with The Offspring will mark the band's first tour.
