Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson issues a new album with his revamped band The New Earth Mud on June 29, and he'll be on the road before the set hits stores.
The outing opens in New Orleans on April 30, and currently runs through mid July. Robinson's itinerary includes several dates supporting The Allman Brothers Band.
The new set, titled "This Magnificent Distance," is the sophomore release from Robinson & The New Earth Mud.
"I want to find a common ground where thought, action and soulfulness meet emotion and experience--that was kind of the motivating factor behind the whole album," Robinson said in a statement.
Robinson penned five of the songs on the album himself, co-wrote six others with The New Earth Mud's Paul Stacey, and co-wrote one track with his former Black Crowes bandmate Audley Freed. Robinson and Stacey co-produced all but two of the songs; Robinson and Ethan Johns co-produced the others.
The core players on the album include Robinson (guitar, harmonica), George Laks (keyboards), George Reiff (bass), Jeremy Stacey (drums, percussion) and Paul Stacey (guitar). Johns (drums), Richard Causon (keyboards) and Audley Freed (guitars) also contributed.
"Most of this album was done with a group of musicians I had been on the road with, so we'd just set up in the studio and start cutting tracks live, and I think that always is going to create a different vibe," Robinson said. "On the last album, I would play acoustic guitar to a rhythm track, and we would build around that."
Robinson's backing band this year will feature Freed, Reiff, drummer Steve Distanislao and keyboardist Rob Barraco.
