Gov't Mule preps new album, launches new round of tour dates

In between playing a series of headlining shows and holding down the opening slot on some of Kid Rock 's upcoming dates, Gov't Mule is recording its first new studio album since adding keyboardist Danny Louis and bassist Andy Hess to its lineup.

Meanwhile, Gov't Mule guitarist/frontman Warren Haynes will join The Dead --which includes surviving members of the Grateful Dead--for that group's Feb. 9 Winter Jam concert at San Francisco's Warfield. Haynes will also tour with The Dead this summer, but the itinerary hasn't been announced.

The upcoming album--which is expected to hit stores this fall--will be Gov't Mule's first since its Deep End series, which featured guest appearances from a long list of bassists who filled in after founding bassist Allen Woody died in August of 2000.

In addition to his work with Gov't Mule and The Dead, Haynes will also join The Allman Brothers Band in March for that band's upcoming run of shows at New York's Beacon Theatre.
