Jewel sets solo-acoustic shows in the wake of bassist's death

Singer-songwriter Jewel , who on Thursday (9/12) called off a planned tour with her band after the sudden death of her longtime bassist, plans to play a series of solo-acoustic shows instead.

Six solo-acoustic dates had been confirmed by Friday (9/12) morning, five of which will take place on dates and at venues originally scheduled to host Jewel with her full band. Future tour plans will be announced "as soon as they become available," said a statement from Jewel's publicist.

Jewel is touring in support of her latest album, "0304," which was released in June. It peaked at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 album chart, and currently sits at No. 87.

According to Atlantic Records, bassist Terome "T-Bone" Hannon suffered a stroke last week, and died on Sept. 4 in his hometown of Detroit. Hannon, who was 39, had been a member of Jewel's live band for three years.

"T-Bone was a phenomenal player and we all loved him," Jewel said in a statement. "We are all just in shock and hurt."
