Artists plug in to help roots-rocker Alejandro Escovedo

A long list of benefit concerts for ailing singer-songwriter Alejandro Escovedo are set for the coming months, with artists including Dave Alvin , John Doe , Chuck Prophet and Ian Hunter donating their talents to the cause.

Escovedo, who has no health insurance, collapsed and was hospitalized due to complications from Hepatitis C following an April 26 performance in Phoenix. He is currently resting and undergoing treatment at his Texas home. His illness forced him to put his touring and recording schedule on hold through at least the spring of 2004.

A trust fund--the Alejandro Fund--has been established to cover Escovedo's medical bills and his loss of income.

The upcoming schedule of Escovedo benefits is below. Information about other Escovedo benefit shows is regularly posted at alejandrofund.com and at the unofficial Escovedo Yahoo! Group.
