Neil Young and Crazy Horse stretch out pre-release tour

Backed by his band Crazy Horse, Neil Young continues to preview his upcoming concept album "Greendale" during a summer tour that now includes a September leg.

Young's current round of dates, which feature show-opener Lucinda Williams , wraps up in Missouri on Aug. 10. The new string of shows kicks off in Michigan on Sept. 3, and finds Emmylou Harris stepping into the opening slot.

Though he hasn't revealed a release date for "Greendale," Young is anchoring his current stage show around material from the album, which tells the tale of a fictional family named the Greens who live in the fictional town of Greendale. Young and Crazy Horse enlisted a troupe of actors and dancers to help pull the story off live, and assembled an elaborate stage that features three separate sets.

Crazy Horse's lineup consists of longtime members Ralph Molina (drums), Billy Talbot (bass) and Frank "Poncho" Sampedro (guitar).

In a posting on his official website, Talbot wrote that he and Molina worked with Young on "Greendale."

"The album, which is also going to be a DVD, is finished and should be out in the next couple of months," Talbot wrote. "I really love this record."

Young's website plans to preview a chapter from the "Greendale" DVD on Saturday (8/9). Details are posted at the site.

Singer-songwriter Williams released a new album titled "World Without Tears" on April 8. Harris issues a new set titled "Stumble Into Grace" on Sept. 23, and will follow her dates opening for Young with a headlining run of her own.
