Hagar and his band, the Waboritas, have also lined up a number of headlining and festival dates that are set before, during and after their road-trip with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Plans include a multi-night October run at Hagar's Baja, Mexico, nightclub, the Cabo Wabo Cantina, where the rocker celebrates his Oct. 13 birthday each year.

During his final three summer concerts--Aug. 20 in Minneapolis, Aug. 22 in Kansas City and Aug. 23 in St. Louis--Hagar's show will feature guest appearances from his former Montrose [ tickets ] bandmates, the group with whom Hagar made a name for himself in the '70s before launching a solo career. The performances will be the group's first in 25 years.

Hagar is also stacking those three shows with additional guest-star power in the form of Van Halen [ tickets ] bassist Michael Anthony, who has frequently performed live with Hagar and the Waboritas during the past year.

Titled "Sammy & the Wabo's Live Hallelujah," Hagar's new album landed in stores on May 20. He recorded the set during last summer's co-headlining run with his fellow Van Halen alumnus, David Lee Roth--or, as a recent Hagar press release refers to Roth, "what's-his-name."

The live album comprises material from Hagar's pre- and post-Van Halen solo catalog, as well as several of his Montrose and Van Halen hits. The Van Halen cut "When It's Love"--from 1988's "OU812"--was recorded during Hagar's Boston-area performance last August, and features Anthony, ex-Van Halen singer Gary Cherone, and Cherone's former Extreme--and current Tribe of Judah--bandmate Pat Badger.

Veteran Southern-rock outfit Lynyrd Skynyrd is backing its May 20 release, "Vicious Cycle," which is the group's first new studio set in four years. The album was originally due out on May 6, but the group postponed the release following guitarist Gary Rossington's late-February quintuple bypass.
