Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers float new summer dates

After scrapping their planned summer European tour, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are lining up U.S. dates behind last year's "The Last DJ."

The summer run is currently set to kick off in late June and, so far, Petty and company have unveiled more than a dozen dates.

A sole festival date is also planned: In August, Petty and the Heartbreakers will perform at the first Bonnaroo NE festival in New York. The group will share the stage with Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, Bob Dylan and the Dead, among others.

In late March, Petty and the Heartbreakers announced that they had canceled their summer European tour. The group plans to reschedule the dates, according to its website.

Last month, Petty and the Heartbreakers played three sold-out shows at the Vic Theatre in Chicago, which the group said at that time would be its only concerts during the first half of 2003.

The upcoming tour dates are part of Petty and the Heartbreakers' ongoing support behind last October's "The Last DJ." The album debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
