Anthrax spreads across North America to promote new album

Anthrax is gearing up for the May 6 release its first new studio album in five years, and has begun to string together dates for a tour that kicks off on the same day.

The group, which will be joined on tour by seasoned metal act Motorhead , have so far scheduled dates through the end of May, but more dates are expected.

Titled "We've Come for You All," the New York-based group's latest is the follow-up to 1998's "Volume 8: The Threat Is Real." The new set features guest appearances from The Who's Roger Daltrey and Pantera's Dimebag Darrell.

"It definitely sounds like Anthrax," drummer Charlie Benante said in a statement, "and there are elements from our earlier albums. Creatively, we're on top of our game. We really pushed ourselves."

Benante went on to say that the group has worked to expand its musical horizons.

"In the late '80s, we were pigeonholed into just doing thrash metal. The past couple of years, we've decided to take more chances with our music. On this record, I handled the majority of the music. [Guitarist] Scott [Ian] wrote more lyrics than [singer] John [Bush] this time around, and [bassist] Frank [Bello] came up with some really good melodies."

"Safe Home," the first single from "We've Come for You All," is streaming at Anthrax's official website.

Anthrax--singer John Bush, guitarist Scott Ian, bassist Frank Bello, drummer Charlie Benante and new guitarist Rob Caggiano--recorded "We've Come for You All" at Caggiano's Scrap 60 Productions studio in New York.
