Madonna plans to hype her forthcoming album "American Life" with an hour-long MTV special that is scheduled to air on April 22, the same day that the album hits stores.
During the Carson Daly-hosted program--titled "Madonna on Stage and on the Record"-- the resilient pop star is expected to perform songs from the new album and to talk about the controversial video that she made for its title track.
The special will be taped before a live studio audience at MTV's Times Square studios on the day it airs.
"When I look back on my career, so many of my favorite TV moments have happened on MTV," Madonna said in a statement. "I'm really looking forward to continuing the tradition and performing the music from my new album live on MTV on the day of the album's release."
Madonna's April 22 television blitz will also include appearances on NBC's "Today" and "Dateline," as well as a performance on CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman." Also scheduled is an April 23 appearance on ABC's "Live with Regis and Kelly."
A heavily hyped episode of the NBC comedy "Will & Grace" that features a Madonna guest appearance airs on April 24.
"American Life" is Madonna's tenth studio album, and her first new collection of original material since 2000's "Music." The album was recorded over a yearlong stretch in London and Los Angeles, and includes 11 tracks.
Among those tracks is the previously released "Die Another Day," which appeared on the soundtrack to the 2002 James Bond movie of the same name.
