Mike Love leads Beach Boys on latest road trip

Founding Beach Boys member Mike Love and longtime member Bruce Johnston head up this spring's Beach Boys tour, which kicks off in late April.

The group's lengthy itinerary stretches into October, and includes an Oct. 14 performance in the Virgin Islands, part of a special cruise event dubbed the Kokomo Cruise. More information about the event is posted at the band's website.

Deep-pocketed fans have a chance to add their own private concert to the band's tour schedule; the group has donated to an upcoming charity fundraiser one live show, which talent buyers and fans alike can bid on. The auction takes place at the Siena Hotel in Reno, Nev., on April 11, and proceeds will benefit the Lake Tahoe School, of which Love's charitable organization--the Love Foundation--has been a longtime supporter.

Details about the auction are also posted at the band's website.

Though touring under the Beach Boys moniker, the group's only remaining original member is Love, who licensed the group's name for this tour, according to the band's official fan club website.

Johnston is the only other holdover from the band's mid-'60s glory days; in late 1964, he joined as a touring member after cofounder Brian Wilson announced that he was retiring from live performances.

In early March, Eagle Records released "Live at Knebworth," which captures the original Beach Boys lineup's final U.K. performance. A companion DVD/VHS-video version was released in late March.
