
Modern-rock architects R.E.M. embark on their first North American tour in four years this fall, playing a mix of arenas, amphitheaters and festivals.
According to the band's official website, tickets for some dates will hit the market on April 12. Others will begin to go on sale through the spring and summer.
Wilco supports from Sept. 3-13 (except for a festival date in San Diego), Ed Harcourt opens from Sept 14-20, and Sparklehorse is on the bill from Sept. 23-30 and Oct. 4. The opening acts for R.E.M.'s other October dates haven't been announced.
R.E.M., which has been working on a new studio album in Vancouver of late, opens a European tour on June 27. The album is slated to hit stores in early 2004.
Last week, the Athens, Ga.-bred band posted an anti-war song--a lo-fi acoustic track titled "The Final Straw"--at its official website.
A new R.E.M. "Best Of" compilation is expected to hit stores in the fall of 2003.
