Metallica carves out more Summer Sanitarium dates

Metallica 's itinerary for the upcoming Summer Sanitarium Tour continues to take shape, with dates for the run--which also features Limp Bizkit , Linkin Park , Deftones and Mudvayne --locked in through mid August.

The hard-rocking lineup will launch the outing in Pontiac, Mich., on the Fourth of July. Tickets for most dates are on sale now.

"St. Anger," Metallica's first new studio album in six years, is due in stores on June 10. The set is also the veteran metal act's first release since the 2001 departure of bassist Jason Newsted; longtime producer Bob Rock played bass during the recording sessions.

Rock won't be joining the group on the road, however, now that former Suicidal Tendencies bassist Robert Trujillo has left Ozzy Osbourne's band to become Metallica's new permanent bassist.

In an ironic twist of fate, Newsted will turn up on the summer's other big metal outing, Ozzfest; Osbourne just named the ex-Metallica thrasher as Trujillo's replacement.

Like Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park and Deftones will also be supporting new albums during the Summer Sanitarium Tour. Limp Bizkit's "Bipolar" (originally dubbed "Lessismore") is expected sometime in May, Linkin Park's "Meteora" lands in stores on March 25, and Deftones' as-yet-untitled fourth album is due out in June.

Illinois rock-quartet Mudvayne continues to tour behind last year's "The End of All Things To Come."
