The Polyphonic Spree brings its unique show to clubs

The Polyphonic Spree , a self-described "choral symphonic pop band" that emerged from the ashes of Dallas alt-rockers Tripping Daisy, packs its 23-plus members into several vans for a tour that gets underway in April.

The group, led by former Tripping Daisy frontman Tim DeLaughter, is known for performing clad in flowing white robes. Augmenting vocalist DeLaughter is a guitarist, a bassist, two percussionists, keyboardists, woodwind and strings specialists, brass players and a nine-member chorus.

The Polyphonic Spree's first album, "The Beginning Stages ...," was released last June.

Tripping Daisy split after guitarist Wes Berggren died of drug-related causes in 1999. The group's former bassist, Mark Pirro, is among the Polyphonic Spree's members.
