Dixie Chicks, Avril Lavigne, others added to GRAMMY performers
Ashanti , Vanessa Carlton , the Dixie Chicks , Avril Lavigne and John Mayer have joined the roster of artists who will perform at this year's GRAMMY® Awards.
The new batch of acts joins a talent pool of GRAMMY performers that already includes Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Faith Hill, Norah Jones, Coldplay and Nelly featuring Kelly Rowland.
Ashanti, Lavigne, Springsteen, Jones and Nelly are among this year's eight artists who racked up five nominations each.
Ashanti's nominations include Best New Artist, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best Contemporary R&B Album, and two separate nominations in the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category. Lavigne is also up for Best New Artist, as well as Song of the Year ("Complicated"), Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
Pianist-singer Carlton snagged three nominations, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year ("A Thousand Miles") and Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists, while Mayer is up for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
Members of the New York Philharmonic symphony orchestra are also slated to perform at the awards ceremony, according to organizers.
The 45th GRAMMY Awards are set to take place on Feb. 23 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and will be broadcast live on CBS. The broadcast will be specially formatted for High Definition TV and 5.1 Surround Sound, according to a press release.
The event will also be broadcast on various radio stations via the Westwood One radio network, and will be covered online at GRAMMY.com and AOL Keyword: GRAMMY.
