Beastie Boys Fans Can Make Their Own Anthologies
The Beastie Boys --who are scheduled to release a two-disc anthology titled "The Sounds Of Science" on Nov. 23--are allowing fans to customize their own Beastie Boys anthologies via an Internet-only promotion.
Through Dec. 1, fans can visit the websites of participating retailers (listed on the Beasties official website) and select 40 tracks from a choice of about 150 to create a custom Beasties set on two CDs. The purchaser selects the order of the tracks and the album title.
The custom anthology, which is the result of an agreement between the Beasties, Grand Royal/Capitol records, and MusicMaker.com, is priced at about $18. The band's new single, ''Alive,'' will be thrown in free of charge for those who order a customized set. Orders will be shipped beginning on Nov. 23.
The 150 tracks are culled from all Beastie Boys albums except for the band's major-label debut, ''License To Ill.'' Before they joined Capitol Records and established their own Grand Royal label, the Beasties left Def Jam Records in a controversial split after the release of ''License.'' According to SonicNet, electronic rights to that album are still the subject of legal wrangling.
The official ''Sounds Of Science'' release will span all Beastie Boys albums, including ''License to Ill'' and their early hardcore punk efforts. The band is not expected to tour in support of the anthology.
