Destiny's Child will get back to work in 2002

Contradicting reports that the group was planning an extended hiatus and squashing rumors that it was breaking up, Destiny's Child 's issued a press release on Thursday (12/13) outlining its plans for the coming year. Among those plans are a 2002 spring world tour, television appearances, and work on a new album.

"We are very much a group, very much together, and plan to be for many years," the trio said in the statement. "We've worked really hard to get to where we are and have been blessed with success and the incredible support for our fans. We're like sisters. We really love and understand each other and have such a great time that we can't even think about breaking up Destiny's Child.

"We just want to take a little time to work on some things that reflect our individual personalities and we're going to help and support each other with everything we do. We're going to see our fans on our spring world tour and start working on a new group album right after that."

Last week, members of Destiny's Child reportedly told E! News Daily that the trio plans to take an indefinite hiatus after fulfilling its Asian and European concert commitments, which run through May.

All three members are working on projects of their own. Knowles will star as Foxy Cleopatra in "Austin Powers 3: Goldmember," due in theaters on July 26. Michelle Williams has been recording an album of inspirational music, while Kelly Rowland is "working up material for an album showcasing her own hybrid of R&B/rock/soul," according to the release.

Destiny's Child, who released the CD "8 Days of Christmas" (Music World Music/Columbia Records) on Oct. 30, has sold more than 33 million albums and singles worldwide in a little more than four years. On Dec. 4, the group won several Billboard Music Awards.

In other awards news, the group is up for Outstanding Duo or Group for the album "Survivor" (Columbia/Sony) in the 33rd annual NAACP Image Awards, which will air on March 1 on Fox. Also, Destiny's Child is up for Favorite Album, Pop/Rock for the album "Survivor" and Favorite Band, Duo or Group, Soul/R&B, at the 29th annual American Music Awards, to be broadcast live on Jan. 9.

Last month, Destiny's Child entered the "Guinness Book of World Records" for having more No. 1 records on the U.S. charts than any girl group in music history, according to the press release.
