No band name or release date set for post-Rage Against the Machine project
Contrary to published reports, the three remaining members of Rage Against the Machine and singer Chris Cornell do not have plans to release their first album in February. The group has also not decided on a new name for itself.
According to the band's management, reports that the quartet has tentatively set a Feb. 26 release date for its album, and that it plans to continue using the name Rage Against the Machine, are "incorrect."
"All of this is incorrect information," said a management spokesperson. "No release date has been set. No band name has been chosen. It definitely will not be Rage Against the Machine."
The spokesperson went on to say that the band--Cornell, guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk--is still recording new material.
Reports first surfaced in May that Morello, Commerford and Wilk had joined forces with Cornell, former frontman for Soundgarden . That group broke up in 1997.
Former Rage frontman Zack de la Rocha announced in October 2000 that he had departed the group. The group's remaining three musicians quickly responded by announcing that they intended to carry on with a new vocalist.
