Kid Rock, Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule to perform for U.S. troops
Members of the armed services who are based overseas have something to look forward to this holiday season, as MTV, the USO and American Forces Entertainment have linked up to bring the troops a concert featuring Kid Rock , Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule .
According to an MTV press release, the concert will take place at an undisclosed military base overseas, and will be taped for a 90-minute broadcast titled "For the Troops: An MTV/USO Special" that is scheduled to air on Jan. 1. In addition to the artists' musical performances, the program will also feature behind-the-scenes footage of "J. Lo, Kid Rock and Ja Rule from the moment they arrive on base and begin interacting with the troops as they go through their daily routines." Interviews with some of the troops will also be aired.
The USO is a congressionally chartered, nonprofit organization that has been providing celebrity entertainment to U.S. troops for more than 60 years. Entertainer Bob Hope started the tradition in May 1941.
Last year, the USO produced 28 tours--167 shows--in 43 countries. The organization has already doubled those numbers for 2001, according to its official website.
