Cypress Hill to take Smoke Out festival on the road

updated 9/21: Previously held in the Los Angeles area as a single-day event, the fourth annual Smoke Out festival will visit at least four cities this year, and will feature a lineup that includes founding band Cypress Hill , Deftones , Busta Rhymes , Redman and Method Man .

Also on this year’s roster are Erick Sermon, Keith Murray, Suicidal Tendencies, Fear Factory, Afroman, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Kottonmouth Kings, NOFX, Armand Van Helden and DJ Sneak. Additional acts will be announced in the coming weeks, according to a press release.

Organizers claim that the multi-date run is the first step toward turning the annual festival into a full-fledged touring event.

"We're trying to start small," said Cypress Hill frontman. "We know we've got something good but we don't want to spread it out too much right now. We're doing three [major] markets [in addition to the L.A. area] this year, and maybe next year we'll do five or ten, and after that maybe a full-blown tour."

In addition to the four-date itinerary below, the outing may also make a Sept. 30 stop in the Philadelphia area, according to organizers.

Last year’s Smoke Out festival--which featured Limp Bizkit, (hed) pe, Zebrahead, 311, System of a Down, Pennywise and Redman, among others--took place in San Bernardino, Calif., and attracted a crowd of about 60,000, according to organizers.
