Charts: Blink-182 ends Staind's No. 1 run
The latest album from Southern California pop-punk outfit Blink-182 sold nearly 350,000 copies during its first week in stores, enough to oust Staind from its three-week reign atop the Billboard 200 chart.
Blink-182's "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket" (MCA), the group's first collection of all-new material since 1999's "Enema of the State," already has netted the band a hit radio single with "The Rock Show."
Staind's "Break the Cycle" (Flip)--at No. 2 on the chart, according to industry sources--actually showed a slight increase in sales compared to the previous week, but it wasn't enough to fend off Blink-182's release. Staind is riding the success of its current single, "It's Been a While."
"Survivor" (Columbia), the latest album from Destiny's Child , jumps two slots to No. 3, and the "Moulin Rouge" soundtrack holds steady at No. 4, according to Industry sources.
"Free City" (Universal) by St. Lunatics--a five-member St. Louis rap crew featuring Nelly--slips to slots to No. 5 in its second week of release. Sugar Ray's new, self-titled album (Atlantic) sold more than 100,000 copies during its first week out to debut at No. 6.
Spending its second consecutive week at No. 7 is "NOW That's What I Call Music! Vol. 6" (Epic), a collection of previously released hits by current artists. The album has sold more than 2.3 million copies to date, according to industry sources.
Tool's "Lateralus" (Volcano)--is down one place at No. 9, and Weezer's new, self-titled album (Geffen), jumps two slots to No. 10.
Other notable debuts include "9 Lives" (Motown), the latest from Brooklyn rapper Az (No. 23) and U.K. pop-rock act Travis' "The Invisible Band" (No. 39).
