Donny Osmond to back Broadway album with orchestral tour

Backed by a five-piece rhythm section and a 14-piece orchestra, singer Donny Osmond is returning to the concert stage after a break of more than a decade. The U.S. portion of the tour kicks off on May 12 in Detroit and wraps up on July 1 in St. Louis.

Osmond is currently visiting PBS-TV stations to pump his new CD "This Is the Moment" (Universal Classics Group), a collection of Broadway hits including "Luck Be a Lady" and "Seasons of Love," "recorded with a new style and sound thanks to legendary music producer Phil Ramone," according to a press release. Ramone has worked with Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Billy Joel and Frank Sinatra.

Osmond, who starred on stage as "Joseph" in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," will hit 20 theaters in May and June before traveling overseas for a three-month tour of Europe, Asia and Australia. Besides material from "This is the Moment," the set list will include orchestral arrangements of his hits.

The second leg of the U.S. tour will resume in January with dates through the spring.
