The Black Crowes sue Lloyd's of London

The Black Crowes have filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against international insurance provider Lloyd’s of London, claiming that the organization failed to pay up on an insurance policy for last year’s aborted Black Crowes-Jimmy Page tour. That outing was cut short after Page suffered a back injury.

“Before they embarked on last year's tour together,” the Black Crowes' publicist wrote in a statement issued on Wednesday (2/28), “Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes purchased a policy from Lloyd's insuring against loss in the event that any portion of the concert tour was canceled.”

The suit, which was filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday, accuses Lloyd’s of breach of contract and bad faith for refusing to honor the agreement. The group is seeking both punitive and compensatory damages, according to the statement.

A spokesperson for Lloyd’s of London's headquarters in the U.K. explained that the organization consists of over 100 individual insurance syndicates, and that it did not know which specific syndicates were targeted by the suit.

"In this case, the Black Crowes appear to be suing a number of Lloyd's syndicates, not Lloyd's itself," the spokesperson said. "Lloyd's centrally has no knowledge of the case and cannot comment."

Earlier this week, the Black Crowes announced plans to head out on a co-headlining tour with Oasis. That outing is set to get underway in May.
