Black Crowes and Oasis team for spring tour

update: The Black Crowes and Oasis will co-headline a tour that will get underway in mid May, tour organizers announced. Billed as the Tour of Brotherly Love--a sarcastic reference to the volatile relationships for which the pair of brothers in each band are known--the outing is set to run through early June.

Prior to hitting the road with Oasis, the Black Crowes are scheduled to play six festival dates throughout the southern U.S. between April 28 and May 6.

On May 8, the Black Crowes are scheduled to release “Lions,” the group’s first album for V2 Records, according to a spokesperson. The group’s final release for Columbia Records was last June’s “Greatest Hits 1990-1999: A Tribute to a Work in Progress.”

The Black Crowes also released “Live at the Greek” (TVT) last year, a recording of a 1999 performance that featured legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. That release led to a Black Crowes-Page tour last year, but the outing was cut short after Page suffered a back injury.

The Black Crowes’ lineup boasts the brother duo of frontman Chris Robinson and guitarist Rich Robinson. The pair’s history of fighting with each other is well documented, and almost led to the group’s demise.

In a 1996 Rolling Stone interview, Chris Robinson had the following to say about his fights with brother Rich: “Oasis, my ass! We're from Georgia; we f---in' knuckle! Literally, me and Rich have fought a lot, but we have one rule: You can have f---in' body punches and f---in' choke holds, and f---in' throw bottles at each other, but we never crack each other in the face.”

Oasis’ Noel and Liam Gallagher are notorious for their own fighting. During the band’s 2000 world tour, Noel quit the group for a third time, blaming his departure on Liam’s “massive ego.” Liam subsequently announced that the band would end if Noel embarked on a solo career.

The two have since reconciled, and Oasis played at a series of festival dates in South America in January, including a performance at the massive Rock in Rio III festival.

Oasis’ most recent release is last November’s “Familiar to Millions” (Epic), a 2-CD live album. A companion DVD/VHS is set for release on March 27, according to the group’s official website.

The group is reportedly working on its next studio album.
