Charts: Shaggy retains bragging rights
Shaggy ’s “Hotshot” (MCA) retains its spot atop the album charts for a third straight week, outselling the No. 2 album--the Beatles’ hits set “1” (Capitol)--by nearly a three-to-two margin, according to music industry sources.
Holding firm at No. 3 on the album chart is the soundtrack to the film “Save the Last Dance” (Hollywood). The album--which features artists such as Snoop Dogg, Q-Tip, K-Ci & Jo-Jo and the late Notorious B.I.G.--was released on Dec. 19, but the motion picture didn't hit theaters until Jan. 12.
Dido ’s “No Angel” (Virgin)--an album that was released in 1999 but didn’t reach the Top 10 until last month--continues to pick up steam, charting at No. 4 this week, up from No. 6.
The climb of the Sade release “Lovers Rock” (Epic) continues as well, as it jumps two notches to No. 6 on the chart. Lenny Kravitz’ “Greatest Hits” (Virgin) remains at No. 7 for a second straight week.
Falling three notches to No. 8 is Ja Rule’s “Rule 3:16” (Def Jam), while Crazy Town’s “Gift of Game” (Columbia) rises one spot to No. 9. Rounding out the top 10 is Ludacris’ “Back for the First Time” (Def Jam).
No new releases debuted in the top 50 this week.
