Project/Object plays Zappa's music in the East and South

Project/Object, a band that claims that its mission is to keep Frank Zappa 's music alive and onstage, has announced new dates for its Absolutely Live tour. Former Zappa vocalist Ike Willis will be guest frontman.

The New Jersey-based band's website promises fans "two long sets of Frank Zappa's music," which suggests a lot of extended guitarwork, the kind for which Zappa's live shows were known. The seven-member lineup includes two guitarists and two percussionists.

Last New Year's Eve, Project/Object and Willis performed Zappa's rock opera "Joe's Garage" in its entirety at the Lion's Den in New York.

Frank Zappa, whose irreverent lyrics and ambitious musicianship earned him a devoted following, died of cancer in 1993.
