Pearl Jam, Springsteen Lining Up 2000 Tour Activity
After being sidelined from the summer concert menu because of headlining problems, Lollapalooza, the granddaddy of touring festivals in the U.S., is wasting no time and making plans to re-enter the marketplace next year.
According to several industry sources, the Lollapalooza organization and Pearl Jam are talking. If these two parties can come to terms, and if the organizers are able to successfully reinvent Lollapalooza as they have acknowledged they need to do, look for the festival to make a strong comeback.
Also planning a comeback is the stadium tour. Concert fans are likely to see four to five next year. With a noticeable absence of stadium tours save George Strait's country music festival, Jimmy Buffett and Strait are on the books for stadium outings next year, according to industry sources.
Bruce Springsteen , who's been enjoying sold out success at the box office with the reformation of his E Street Band, is also planning stadium dates next year.
The Dave Matthews Band played nine stadium dates in 1999, and is likely to return to stadiums and expand its number of dates. And Phish, who has eluded stadiums thus far, are keeping their options open, says their booking agent.
