HBO to air Bruce Springsteen concert special

HBO will debut the concert special "Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band," on April 7, the cable network announced on Tuesday (2/6). The special was filmed on June 29 and July 1, 2000, during the final two performances of the band’s 10-show run at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

According to HBO, the special--which was taped and will be broadcast in hi-definition (HDTV) format--will mark the first time a concert film of Springsteen and band has been presented on television.

The Madison Square Garden shows were the last dates on the band’s 1999-2000 world tour, which grossed more than $107 million in North America, according to Pollstar. It was Springsteen’s first U.S. tour with the E Street Band in more than a decade.

Musicians on the shows, according to Springsteen’s publicist, included: Roy Bittan (keyboards), Clarence Clemons (saxophone, percussion), Danny Federici (keyboards), Nils Lofgren (guitars), Patti Scialfa (vocals, guitar), Springsteen (vocals, guitar), Garry Tallent (bass), Steven Van Zandt (guitars) and Max Weinberg (drums). The songs that will appear in the special haven’t been revealed.

Though rumors have persisted regarding live album and DVD releases from the Madison Square Garden shows, Springsteen’s camp hasn’t confirmed that either project is in the works.
