Death Cab for Cutie is spending the month of February headlining the Holiday Matinee tour, an outing that features fellow indie-label acts the Jealous Sound and the And/Ors in the supporting slots. All three bands are documenting the tour on the Internet on a daily basis.
A frequently updated tour diary that contains entries from members of all three bands as well as a gallery of onstage and offstage photos of the groups is currently featured at the tour's official website. A question-and-answer forum has also been set up, as has a contest area where users can win tour tickets and other prizes.
“Forbidden Love” (Barsuk), a five-song EP, is Death Cab for Cutie’s latest release. The disc hit shelves last October and is the follow-up to the Washington-based act’s sophomore LP, “Something About Airplanes.”
The Jealous Sound’s self-titled debut EP was released on Better Looking Records last August. The same label is set to release the And/Ors debut on Tuesday (2/6).
Tour sponsor Holiday Matinee is an independent PR firm whose client roster comprises a slew of indie-label acts, including the three bands featured on the company’s winter tour.
“Basically, we're just sick of hearing about boy bands who don't even write their own songs,” reads a statement posted on the company’s official website. “There are so many great new artists producing unique and noteworthy creativity and Holiday Matinee is determined to give these artists the attention they deserve.”
The Holiday Matinee tour began on Feb. 1 in Portland, Ore., and played subsequent shows in Seattle on Feb. 2 and 3. The outing resumes on Monday night (2/5) in Eugene, Ore.
