Ol' Dirty Bastard captured in Philadelphia

Ol’ Dirty Bastard, who escaped last month from a court-ordered stay at a drug-treatment facility in California, was arrested on Monday (11/27) in Philadelphia, according to a spokesperson for the Philadelphia police department.

The rapper--a.k.a. Russell Jones--was captured yesterday outside of a McDonald’s restaurant in Philadelphia after his presence drew both a crowd and the attention of a police officer, according to the police spokesperson. The officer recognized Jones and knew he had outstanding warrants issued for his arrest. He was subsequently taken into custody without incident, the spokesperson said.

On Tuesday (11/28), Jones is scheduled to appear in court for an extradition hearing to determine whether he will be transferred into the custody of police in California or New York to face charges pending against him in both states. A California judge issued a warrant for Jones’ arrest after he fled from a court-ordered stay at a drug-treatment facility in that state on Oct. 18. Drug-related charges are also pending against him New York.

"I don’t think California is coming for him," said Sgt. Roland Lee of the Philadelphia police department. "It’ll just be New York."

Jones has been on the run since he fled the treatment facility. The rapper made a surprise appearance on stage last week during a Wu-Tang Clan concert in New York City, where the fugitive performed with the group briefly.
