Charts: R. Kelly scores top slot with debut of 'TP-2'
“TP-2.com” (Jive), the latest from R. Kelly , debuts at the top of the album chart this week, knocking Jay-Z’s “The Dynasty: Roc La Familia (2000)” (Roc-A-Fella) from its perch, according to industry sources. The latest from blink-182, meanwhile, debuts at No. 8 this week, and the “Charlie’s Angels” soundtrack (Columbia)--which was at No. 11 last week--claws its way into the top 10 during its third week out.
R. Kelly’s chart-topping debut was propelled by the single “I Wish,” currently No. 1 on trade publication Radio & Records’ urban chart, which measures national radio airplay. “TP-2.com” is the follow-up to 1998’s "R.," which has been certified by the Recording Industry Association of America for selling over 5 million copies. That 2-CD release features the hit single "I Believe I Can Fly," which was originally featured on the "Space Jam" soundtrack.
Outkast’s “Stankonia” (LaFace/Arista), which debuted at No. 2 last week, stays put this week. The album was buoyed by the single “Ms. Jackson," which jumped from No. 21 to No. 13 on Radio & Records’ urban chart.
Limp Bizkit ’s “Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water” (Flip/Interscope) lands at No. 3 in its third week out, up one spot from its No. 4 position of last week. The disc debuted at No. 1 two weeks back. The group is currently on tour in support of the album, but has canceled several shows recently due to frontman Fred Durst’s vocal problems, including a Wednesday night (11/15) stop in Vancouver, B.C.
Jay-Z’s “The Dynasty: Roc La Familia 2000,” which debuted at No. 1 last week, falls to No. 4 his week, and is joined on its way down by U2’s “All That You Can’t Leave Behind” (Interscope), which slips from No. 3 to No. 5.
“Country Grammar” (Universal), the debut from Nelly, holds strong in the top 10 during its 20th week of release, remaining at No. 6 for the second week in a row. The St. Louis-based rapper is followed at No. 7 by the “Charlie’s Angels” soundtrack, which finally cracks into the top-10 in its third week of release.
Blink-182’s “The Mark, Tom & Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back)" (MCA) debuts at No. 8 this week. The 20-track disc features several previously unreleased tracks that the band has only performed live, and also includes the new studio track "Man Overboard." The album is a limited-edition release that will only be available through the end of this year, according to blink-182's official website.
“Awake” (Universal), the sophomore effort from Godsmack, drops to No. 9 after debuting at No. 5 last week. The disc is followed by Creed ’s “Human Clay” (Wind Up) at No. 10, an album that was released over a year ago. The disc features the hit single “With Arms Wide Open,” which is No. 2 on the latest Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, was No. 1 on that chart last week and has been on that chart for a total of 28 weeks.
Country artist Alan Jackson’s latest, “When Somebody Loves You” (RCA), debuts at No. 15 this week, and Spice Girls’ “Forever” (Virgin) clocks in at No. 39.
