George Strait festival assembles bulk of 2001 lineup
Alan Jackson , Lonestar , Lee Ann Womack, Brad Paisley and Asleep at the Wheel will join the tour’s namesake on the fourth annual George Strait Country Music Festival, organizers announced.
The remainder of the bill for the tour, which will open in March, will be announced as its opening date approaches.
The tour is expected to make stops at 16 stadiums in 2001, but specific dates and venues haven’t been announced. The Strait Festival played only 10 shows in 2000, and the tour didn’t venture west of Dallas.
Asleep at the Wheel is the only act besides Strait himself to be on the tour's bill for each of its four years. Womack will join the tour for the second straight year.
According to tour publicists, the Strait Festival has grossed more than 90 million dollars in ticket sales, and has played to more than 2 million fans.
Besides approximately 10 hours worth of music, each show includes a Straitland concourse that features carnival games, arts and crafts vendors, exhibits and radio station booths.
